Product Description
I’ve always been interested in what catalyst makes people change, and this seemed a good way to explore it – taking an essentially passive individual and giving her the proverbial once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blueberry fields, but not forever, October 17, 2005
By Carter Jefferson (Boston, MA USA) - See all my reviews
It's not often one finds a passive character well enough
portrayed to provoke interest. But Jeannette Angell's
Carrie does more than that. She wanders through the
blueberry fields of Maine's northern coast, she works in
the local music and TV rental store, she quietly accepts
her mother's constant harassment. Underneath,
however, a fire is banked. Angell shows us the "summer
people" through the eyes of a local, and they are not
pretty--but they represent something that might, under
just the right circumstances, provoke a quiet girl to
action.

Beautifully written, this is an unusually fine short story.
