Product Description
My year working in the oil business made me wonder which was darker; the hearts of the industry's fringe players or the crude product itself. The lure of subterranean riches seemed to attract all sorts of questionable types with marginal morals. Some people lost a lot of money. Others lost more. This story is based on actual events that occurred in the Anadarko Basin area of Oklahoma and Kansas in the 1970s and 1980s.

About the Author

D.M. Schwartz lives and works in the foothills of California's Sierra Mountains with his wife, three children, a dog, a cat, a fish, and the rest of the paraphernalia of modern life. His non-fiction writing on digital technology has been widely published in engineering journals and conference proceedings. Schwartz divides his working hours between architecture and engineering, doing forensic analysis. Much of his spare time is dedicated to creative writing, which appears in various e-zines and political websites. Schwartz's one foray into Hollywood resulted in “American Hero,” a movie that fortunately never made it into general release. When he's not writing, Schwartz can be found helping his children with their homework or seeing a movie with his wife. Occasionally, he pilots a Cessna 172, skis, bikes, and attempts to play a Yamaha synth for the heavy metal band, Krevice Tul.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slick., February 12, 2007
Awl Bidnith is a fascinating account of corporate crime in the oil industry during the early 1980s. The story carries with it shades of today's Enron scandal, making this one all the more powerful and relevant. Schwartz's comfortable writing style offers a quick pace combined with splashes of description and humorous dialogue. While this story is one of several that depicts events in the author's life, and no doubt will flow smoothly within the confines of a memoir of sorts, as a stand-alone story I would have liked a stronger ending.

Awl in awl, however, Awl Bidnith is a terrific read.
