From School Library Journal
Kindergarten-Grade 2-- The story of Tigger, a cat, and his relationships with two other cats. Tigger has only just settled into his people's home when another cat arrives. After initial resentment, Tigger and Thomas become companions. Years later Thomas disappears; readers will realize that he has died, although it is not clearly stated. Tigger learns to enjoy being alone again and is unhappy when Claudia arrives, until the faint memory of Thomas helps him to accept her. The plot seems more like an affectionate remembrance than a fleshed-out story. While the writing is pedestrian, the watercolor illustrations are well executed with soft line and color. However, they are static; the cats seem suspended in motion. The individual scenes fail to flow smoothly from one to another to form a pictorial narrative. Blue borders serve to reinforce the cool, detached feeling of the pictures. Although attractive at first glance, this book has little to make children care about its characters. --Jane Gardner Connor, formerly at South Carolina State Library, Columbia
