5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for baseball fans & sports history buffs., June 4, 2000
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
No-Hitters: The 225 Games, 1893-1999 discusses each no-hitter baseball game, including a brief profile and career record of each pitcher. Each game is recapped, with details on what happened to that batter. A box score for each game is also featured, as is a photo of almost every no-hit pitcher. No-Hitters is enhanced for the baseball enthusiast with appendices that list no-hitters in which more than one pitcher participated; complete game no-hitters of less than nine innings; and no-hitters pitched before 1893 (when the mound was only 50 feet from home plate). An informative foreword by Jim Bunning (who pitched two no-hitters and one of the only eleven perfect games in baseball history) is a true informational treasure for the baseball fan. No-Hitters is a highly recommended addition to personal, school, sports bar, and community library baseball reference book collections.

5.0 out of 5 stars An unparalled no-hitter reference volume, December 20, 2007
By Jim Lonsdale (Phoenix, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
Rich Westcott & Allen Lewis went above and beyond in compiling all the pertinent data on each of the baseball no-hitters thrown from 1893 (the time when the pitching mound was moved to its current 60' 6" from the plate) through 1999. Each no-hitter's box score is included as well as a comprehensive narrative about each, including the date and day of the week, the ballpark it happened at, and even the size of the crowd. A photo of almost all of the pitchers who threw the no-hitters accompanies each entry (with the exception of the 4 Federal League pitchers who tossed no-nos). The back of the book has four informative appendices : A) Combined No-Hitters , B) Eight-Inning No-Hitters, C) No-Hitters pitched before 1893, & D) No-Hitter Facts & Figures. The last of which is loaded with info such as first no-hitters by team, pitchers with multiple no-hitters, and no hit anomalies (most and fewest walks, strikeouts, etc). This 418 page book is packed with stats and facts presented in an enjoyable and concise fashion and I would highly recommend it to any fan of the game or stats hound. A great book.
