About the Artist
Susan Greenbaum has committed the first sin of musicians: She quit her day job. After a number of years as a corporate executive in Fortune 500 companies, Greenbaum traded her panty hose for performing. She has been singing as long as she1s been speaking-in choirs, jazz groups, and as a solo act. Music, a fundamental in her familys home in Kansas City, provided focus for her extracurricular life at Harvard and in the years following college. While writing always came very naturally, song-writing was a more intimidating process to Greenbaum; she did not write her first real song until 1993. With a few originals completed, she recorded and co-produced her first cd, "Actual Size," in 1995. Susan Greenbaum performs as a solo singer-songwriter and with her band. Her credits include frequent appearances with Livingston Taylor, opening for Iris DeMent and Three Dog Night, and sharing bills with John Fogerty, The Allman Brothers, and Sister Hazel. The most frequently ! heard comment at her gigs is, "Great songs--and how does all that big, beautiful sound come out of someone under five feet tall?" Product Description
"Wake Up!" is the singer-songwriters second CD. Produced by John Morand of Sound of Music Recording Studios, "Wake Up!" demonstrates Susan Greenbaums vast range, in both style and octaves. Her pop music sensibilities merge with clever wordplay to create songs that people "get," songs that entertain in their humor, candor, and emotion. Melody is partnered with clarity in Greenbaums tunes, and her voice sings the stories with genuine energy and power. She uses intensity, strength, and sometimes volume to tell her truths, in styles ranging from infectious pop/rock and sexy funk to swing jazz and folk with a country tinge. "Dead End Called Main Street," one of the songs on the new cd, finished in the top five of the 1998 John Lennon Songwriting Contest folk category.
